l am looking at a 1985 Mazda Rx-7 with 95000 miles on it. It looks like it is in good shape and well taken care of. l like the car but l need a car that l can rely on. are Mazda RX-7s good cars or would it cause me problems? Thank you for your help

yeah.and they can be fast if you just put alil money in them

If you are looking for a relaible transportation, do not buy a RX-7, their rotary engine does not last very long. Most need a rebuild within 50K-80K miles because of bad apex seals and it is not cheap to replace them.

However, RX-7s are very fun car to drive.

l had a 79 rx7 very good car.but l will tell you this.kep an eye on the oil..check it at least ever other tank og gas.the rotory engine uses oil pump through the carb to lubricate the seals..if you look at the carb there should be 2 plastic line.ones a inlet.other is a return.they dont use a lot, but if one of those lines gets a crack in it..you will lose a lot on the ground..but other then that they are great cars!!!

l owned an 83 for nearly 10 years.quite reliable, good electrics,rust prone but if its 22 years old with low mileage and pampered go for it

Have an experienced Rotary mechanic give the car a good inspection. The body sounds likes its in good shape. If the motor has good compression & the tranny & rear end pass inspection then you're probably good-to-go.

Keeping a Rotary engine healthy requires monitoring oil condition & consumption. The oil injection system is critical to engine life. A very good way to ensure the engine receives adequate seal lubrication is to pre-mix 2 cycle engine oil in with ur gas. Using 4-6 ounces in 15 gallons of gas will ensure good lubrication even if the oil injection system is not fully flowing.

An RX7 can be reliable if u maintain it property.

they are good car as long as you take good care of it

two main problem that l know
NEVER ever make it overheat or your engine is dead,,,,

NEVER ever park it more than a week without running it,
or else you might have to call a rotary mechanic to make it run
and if he told you to buy all this things just to make it run ,
get another mechanic or just buy a set of spark plug only,,

Some of these cars have been rode hard & put up wet. In which case they will be problems.
If l wanted to have something fun to drive, that is or will be a classic soon, l would go for it.
l would be willing to accept that for a while it may eat into my budget for repairs. But l look at it this way, it is either fork out some money to get the thing better (repair costs), or fork out money to watch a car get worse (car payments).
Me l would rather maintain a car then make car payments, not only do l loose less money in car costs, but l also have lower taxes & insurance rates.
Yes they r reliable, but it is not young.
When u get it fixed up, take it to some car shows & enjoy the respect & admiration that having a brand new mustang will not get you. l will guarantee u will have someone come up & say '' l used to own one of these, wish l had never let it go''

dont' buy a mazda, especially RX-7. do not let what you see in the car deceive you. If RX-7 is reliable, why have not l seen any of them on the road. Where l live l used to see them all the time. now, where are they? junkyard. even my mechanic told me not to buy an RX-7 'cuz engine problems. If you have tons of money and willing to turn that car into collectible item then go ahead and have fun.

evrytime some one says a bad sentence here about the rx7 gets a thumb down :))

in my younger days i've done enough experiances on diff model cars to know which one can last, so let me tell u if u want to drive it like an old lady its going to last forever & nothing wrong with the rotary engine, but some of us r very heavy footed & give these poor engines a good daily thrash & guess What? it blows the seals & has overheating problems very common for a rotary engine. If u rotary lovers dont agree then nothing can make you.
