l know somebody that does that, but l would like to know what is like to rebuild a rotaty engine, l am not trying to it myself but l would help to know a little bit of info, any info you can give me about rotary engines and problems about them, also l would like to know how how much the rotary seals cost you, and how much would a mechanic charge to change them
also it is a 1988 and will probably sell it because l have problems turning it on, do you think it is worth it to rebuild the motor, l know they are pretty quick when you fix them, how much do the cost on the streets
thanks for the help

tell you what rotarys need rebuilds quite often depending on how old the engine is if you get balanced rx7 rotors balance your shaft and get 3mm titanium apex seals those modifications will automatically prolong the life of your rotary engine

here in puerto rico r a lot of those cars & we have the faster rotary engines on the world running 6.8 in 1/4 mile

the most commom problem with rotary r the rotary seals (call carbons or carbones) they will fade out more faster than piston rings but is not a problem is because the type of the engine is made different from pistons

the seals here cost around $55 - $195 depend on the quality, they r only 6 of them 3 per rotor

and labor for installing them is around $400 that is because here in PR we r very familiar with those engines in the states u can pay for it around $1200
if u can bring the car to puerto rico u can sell the car in a few k is with bad seals

love the sound when idle (tra tra tra tra) l am drooling

Whoa whoa all this bad advice. Why do u think it needs to be rebuilt rotaries last for a long time it maybe hard to start cause its flooding, & any self respecting FC3S specialist would have told u that, & when a Rx7 floods it washes away its seal. l have bought 8 2nd generation Rx7 is from people that could not get them started or thought they needed rebuilding & l got everyone of them started within a hour of getting the car home. Unless u see a few Rx7 is sitting in front of the shop do not let them rebuild it buy the book & do it yourself if u got a garage. Its not worth it to pay anyone else to rebuild the motor it unless its getting ported. I

l would shop around if u want a shop to do it. A lot of shops dont have much experience building rotaries. l wouldnt trust anyone with my engine. Second, l dont know about the guy claiming to be a puerto rican, but if u r building an engine for street use, all factory replacement Mazda Parts r the best. The ceramic, or titanium? (which l have never heard of titanium being used) tend to wear the housings out faster as they r to hard & create to much friction. The only time u need them is in Extremely high boost engines where u worry about breaking the factory ones. Rotaries tend to be more expensive to rebuild than piston engines, but not by a whole aweful lot. If u have any mechanical knowledge u can rebuild a rotary, they arent as hard as everyone makes them out to be.
The only ''problem'' rotaries have is that since the rotor housings r one piece that completely surrounds the rotor, there is no way for oil to lubricate the apex seals. In a piston engine the crankshaft throws oil up onto the cylinder walls thereby lubricating the rings. So in order to lubricate the apex seals oil must be injected with fuel into the combustion chamber. So it gets burnt off during combustion. So ALL rotaries burn SMALL quantities of oil. l believe it is one quart per 1500 miles is acceptable. So if u change ur oil on a regular basis, & keep an eye on it, u wont have any problems. Also, rotaries cannot be overheated at all. If the temp guage goes to half, turn ur engine off even if it is new it can be ruined. The rotor housings r aluminum & the side plates r cast iron, so even if it gets to just above halfway, the rotor housings can warp, where as the side plates wont change shape, & it will ruin the engine.
Hope l helped a little
