In general, it increase gas mileage on highways, or traveling at high speeds for extende amounts of time, though acceleration is lost, and will shift weird when going up and down hills. This is why we should all drive manuals!

yes it does increase mpg, but it should not be used while towing

the od is a gear that allows the car run at high speed, that also will help with mpg

when you are at straigh road or highway the OD will help but is not recomended to use all the time on any road because the trans will shift up and down and that will damage your trans
