l have a 1994 Mazda B2300 with a manual transmission.The transmission performs great...its a little jerky, but l believe that is just the way the truck drives.It never slips or wo not go into gear...basically the transmission works great.My problem is when going down the road when l let off the gas the car the transmission makes a clanking sound when the gear grabs.If l ease off the gas it lessens/prevents the noise all together or if l press the clutch in then let it out in the same gear it does not make that clanking sound either.I am looking to sell the truck and would like to know what to tell people is wrong or if its an easy fix l would like to fix it myself.Any advice?

you should start by changing the transmission fluid. if it has never been done, it is LONG overdue. over time, the tolerances in the transmission increase, so the ''meshing'' of the gears becomes a bit sloppy. fresh trans fluid will fill some of the wear spots, and absorb some of the play. before you change it, check the fluid level. if it is lower than required, that could also be the problem. make sure you use the proper fluid, or it will eat your synchros.

It does not sound like transmission problem. l would check your drive line and check on the u-joints.
